Research Center for Caries Prevention

Tehran University of Medical Sciences

The Dental Caries Prevention Research Center at Tehran University of Medical Sciences was established in 2013 with the aim of enhancing oral health and improving the quality of life of the community. Situated in the Dental Research Institute, the center focuses on developing knowledge and producing scientific evidence in the field of oral health and social dentistry, with an emphasis on community-based research. It strives to empower young researchers by leveraging the expertise of the strongest group of specialists and researchers in the country to meet national needs in oral health.

To expand the activities of the Caries Prevention Research Center, the center seeks collaboration with other scientific associations and students interested in research. Interested individuals can join as associate members, gaining hands-on experience in dental research and enhancing their skills in executive tasks. All associate members who participate in the center’s activities will receive a certificate of collaboration detailing the type of activity (research, executive, etc.) and its duration.

The planned activities for students are categorized into three areas: research, executive, and public relations, with participation in each being optional.

An associate member can participate in the center's research projects at three levels:

1. **Maximum Participation**: The student plays a major role in all phases of the project, including proposal writing, data collection, data analysis, report writing, and manuscript preparation. In this case, the student's name, with the affiliation of the Dental Caries Prevention Research Center, is listed as either the first or corresponding author in the resulting paper.

2. **Moderate Participation**: The student collaborates in all phases, including proposal writing, data collection, data analysis, report writing, and manuscript preparation. Here, the student's name, with the center’s affiliation, appears as the second author in the resulting paper.

3. **Minimum Participation**: The student participates in parts of the project phases, such as proposal writing, data collection, data analysis, report writing, and manuscript preparation. If meeting the authorship criteria, the student's name, with the center’s affiliation, is listed as the third or subsequent author in the resulting paper.

Members can also engage in executive programs such as website design and updates, poster and announcement design, as well as coordinating the organization of workshops and journal clubs.

Public relations activities include establishing connections between the center and other research institutions within the university and planning related to this domain.
